How forgiveness is demonstrated through the Blue Man
This first character meant nothing to Eddie until he was the first person to show up in his heaven and explain why he is so significant in his life. Eddie is shocked to discover that the Blue Man does not resent Eddie for inadvertently causing his death, thus allowing Eddie to forgive himself for doing so.
Quotes to support argument would be:
"Strangers are just family you have yet to come to know”(Albom 49)
~The Blue Man says this to Eddie after realizing he was the cause of the Blue Man’s death and feels responsible. The Blue Man says this because it helps Eddie to realize that all humans are connected in some way and that life is unfair sometimes.
"This is the greatest gift God can give you: to understand what happened in your life.
To have it explained. It is the peace you have been searching for."
~Eddie knows what he has done he can now move further to his heaven because the Blue Man does not blame Eddie for what happened, but wants him to understand the meaning of his life better. Therefore the Blue Man has forgave Eddie and is the first step closer to Eddie’s peace.
Conclusion
With Eddie’s first encounter with the Blue Man underway he has already started to open up to new thoughts and feelings that he has never opened up about before. Eddie is able to open up to the idea of forgiveness through his first person he meets, but still has others to meet before fully understanding the meaning of letting go.
