How forgiveness is demonstrated through Ruby
This character is also one that Eddie has never met before and soon comes to realize that she is closer to him then he thinks. The woman's name is Ruby and the amusement park named “Ruby Pier” was named after her. She is also able to mend the relationship between Eddie and his father and explain to him what really happened when he passed away so he is able to forgive his father.
Quotes used to support argument are:
"Holding anger is a poison. It eats you from inside. We think that hating is a weapon
that attacks the person who harmed us. But hatred is a curved blade. And the harm we do, we do to ourselves."
~Ruby is trying to ease Eddie into the thought of forgiveness of his father, while still explaining her why is she part of his life. She explains that Ruby Pier where Eddie works was named after her, and her husband was in the same hospital where his father was at the same time. Her husband got hurt in a fire at Ruby Pier and for so long she hated that it was named after her, but she learned to let go of the anger like Eddie should.
“He leaned in close. He saw his father’s dirty hands. He spoke the last familiar words in a whisper "’It's fixed’” (144)
~Eddie has finally forgiven his father and uses the term “it's fixed” because as a child he would bring his father broken things and he would return them and say they were fixed. By Eddie saying this it shows how their torn relationship has been patched up and Eddie gets closer to his peace.
Conclusion
Eddie had reached a point of release in his life where he was able to forgive someone he never thought he would be able to and move on knowing that he is getting closer to understanding forgiveness and the meaning of his life.
